Skate Safe Guide "Sunrise Rollerland is the best in the Sacramento region" |
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Two skater from Sunrise Rollerland on US World TeamTeam Triad will be represented in Venezuela in NovemberOctober 20, 2003
For Kimi Butler this is her third time representing Team USA. Her first year was as a Junior World Team member where she and 3 other young ladies competed in the Jr World competition in Barrancaburmeja, Colombia in July of 2000. In 2001 Kimi missed out by just a few points to represent Team USA in France due to an injury that she had sustained at the Outdoor Nationals that same year. Then she came back with a vengeance last year (2002) to regain a spot on the Senior World Team and compete in Belgium. Just missing out on a medal has put Kimi in the perfect position for this year. After winning two races at Outdoor Nationals in May of this year and placing in several other races, Kimi is definitely ready to stand on the podium in Venezuela for her first World medal. Josh Wood made his first spot on the World Team last year, 2002, making the Marathon team. While he and three other skaters, including one of his best friends Jordan Malone, arrived with the rest of the Sr Team in Belgium, Josh knew that he was very excited about having the opportunity to be at World's and represent the USA in speed skating, but wanted more than just the marathon for the following season. He finished a very respected 23rd out of 180 World Class skaters in the marathon. This year he came back and skated his best performance at the Outdoor National Championships, held in Colorado Springs, Colorado, but was short just a few points to making the Senior team. His performance was good enough however to be chosen as an "alternate" should anything happen to any of the other skaters. As fate would have it..... 50 time World Champion, Chad Hedrick, stepped down, due to Ice Speed Skating commitments, which then opened the spot up for Wood. He is very excited about having the opportunity to represent Team USA at World's this year. Both Kimi and Josh had a very successful World Team residency program in August and are looking to bring home "the gold" to Sunrise Rollerland. From Triad Racing website Triad Racing will be off to Portugal in FebruarySunrise Rollerland Employees will compete for prizes in PortugalJan 20th, 2004 Last year was so much fun and full of much need International experience, that coach Linda Wood recommended to many of the skaters that they try and attend the race this season. The dates are February 18-26, 2004. Races are held on three different courses, the final race being a half-marathon. Last year, Brian Wood, who competed in the Junior Men's division, came home with 2 firsts, one second and the overall win, which included a check in the amount of 300 euros. This being equivalent to about $330.00 US dollars. Also placing was our own Nicole Mathews who finished 4th overall and just out of the money. She will be returning to Portugal this year to hopefully step up on top of the podium and carry home one of those checks!!
